Zero Fee Credit Card Processing is now possible, because of new laws and rule changes in processing regulations. Credit card processing for most businesses is an expense that is often overlooked. With credit card companies having the upper hand for many decades, congress has decided to side with business owners to help minimize and cap some of those high credit card processing fees.

The Frank-Dodd Act and within the Durbin Amendment states that businesses owners now have the right offset credit card fees with either a Surcharge or Cash Discount Program. These programs help offset the interchange fees traditionally paid by businesses. Both programs have a 4% cap on pass thru fees. VISA Surcharge Statement
Since January 27, 2013, merchants in the United States and U.S. Territories have been permitted to impose a surcharge on consumers when they use a credit card.
Retailers must limit the amount of the surcharge to the merchant discount rate for the credit card transaction surcharged, or 4%, whichever is lower.
Additionally, merchants may not require a minimum purchase requirement of more than $10 for Visa transactions.
Mastercard Surcharge Statement
Pursuant to a settlement of the U.S. merchant class litigation, MasterCard will modify certain rules and business practices to permit U.S. merchants to apply an extra checkout fee, also known as a surcharge, to customers who pay with MasterCard-branded credit cards. The rule change permitting such surcharging will go into effect on January 27, 2013. These fees are not allowed on Debit MasterCard or MasterCard prepaid cards.
